Areas of Work

Technical Cooperation with other Organizations and Countries

Thailand is providing a range of technical cooperation services to other countries in the area of public health.  This includes technical advice rendered through international agencies both domestically and internationally.  WHO Thailand  is currently advocating the development of an overall strategy guiding Thailand’s pro-active participation in technical cooperation among countries (TCC). The recent review of the WHO Thailand Country Cooperation Strategy recommended to expand TCC as a core component of the WHO Country programme.  A systematic effort to strengthen the quality and quantity of Thai expertise for international work will be put in place.

The Bureau of Policy and Strategy, Ministry of Public Health and the Department of Technical and Economic Cooperation (DTEC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are the key government agencies involved in facilitating TCC in the area of public health.  WHO
Thailand works closely with these agencies to ensure delivery of quality services both in-country and abroad.

In-country TCC services supported by WHO include arranging fellowship training programmes and other group educational activities, as well as participating in collaborative research activities some of which are carried out at the WHO Collaborating Centers. External technical assistance by Thai experts is provided in a variety of areas and settings ranging from participating on international expert panels to undertaking short-term consultancies for WHO.

WHO Thailand is supporting an on-going mapping exercise to examine capabilities and experiences in the provision of international level public health services through the development of a database of Thai expertise at both individual and institutional levels.

Compiling experiences, input and advice from all levels of the Organization will be undertaken in this endeavour toward a more focused TCC.  Existing international and national institutional networks will be further supported and expanded to strengthen the capacity for TCC.
